April 5, 2026
WICSO is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Amina Osei as the new Regional Coordinator for Africa, marking a significant step in the organisation's commitment to expanding its presence and impact across the African continent.
About the Appointee
Dr. Amina Osei brings over 20 years of experience in higher education administration, quality assurance, and international partnerships. She previously served as the Dean of International Programs at the University of Nairobi, where she established partnerships with 30+ institutions across Europe, Asia, and North America. Dr. Osei holds a PhD in Comparative Education from the University of Cape Town and has published extensively on quality assurance frameworks in African higher education.
Her appointment follows a comprehensive search process that attracted highly qualified candidates from across the continent. The WICSO Executive Council unanimously approved Dr. Osei's appointment, citing her extensive network, deep understanding of African educational landscapes, and proven track record in building cross-institutional collaborations.
"I am honored to take on this role at such a pivotal time for education in Africa. The continent is experiencing unprecedented growth in higher education, and I look forward to helping WICSO member institutions leverage international partnerships, share best practices, and enhance educational quality across the region."
— Dr. Amina Osei, Regional Coordinator for Africa
Current Presence and Expansion Plans
WICSO currently counts 15 partner schools and institutions across Africa, with concentrations in Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana. Under Dr. Osei's leadership, WICSO aims to double this number within three years, targeting new partnerships in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Francophone West Africa.
A new regional office has been established in Nairobi, Kenya, which will serve as the coordination hub for WICSO activities across the continent. The office will house a team of three staff members focused on member support, accreditation coordination, and regional program development. The Nairobi office joins WICSO's existing regional network, which includes offices in Europe and Asia.
Strategic Priorities
Dr. Osei's initial priorities include strengthening support for existing member institutions, developing a regional accreditation facilitation program, creating Africa-specific professional development opportunities, and organizing the first WICSO Africa Regional Conference scheduled for early 2027. She will also work to establish articulation agreements between African member institutions and partner schools in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, creating new pathways for student and faculty mobility.
Ms. Alice Abraham, International President of WICSO, commented: "Dr. Osei's appointment represents a major milestone in our Africa strategy. Her expertise and vision will be invaluable as we work to deepen our engagement with African educational institutions and ensure that our network truly reflects the diversity of global education."
